How We Treat

At Werner Athletics we will take the time to do a detailed assessment to identify the causes and contributors to your pain, compensations, and plateaued performance. Our assessment then guides treatment to effectively and efficiently help you Recover, Adapt, and Perform.

Treatments typically consist of chiropractic manipulation, dry needling, rehab/performance exercise and nutritional supplementation to enhance the four pillars of performance and health.

The four pillars of performance and health are:

  • Biochemistry

    • Are you supplying your body with the appropriate vitamins, minerals, and nutrients?

    • Is your body able to absorb, distribute and utilize these vitamins, minerals and nutrients?

    • Is your body able to remove and prevent the build up of metabolic waste(lactic acid) after these vitamins, minerals and nutrients have been used?

      • If you suffer from swelling, bloating, poor circulation, numbness, tingling, weakness or have muscles that feel like jerky. The answer to the questions above is a resounding, NO.

  • Neuromuscular System

    • Does your body accurately receive and send sensory information so the appropriate reaction occurs?

      • If you struggle balancing on 1 or 2 legs, eyes open or eyes closed, the answer is, NO.

    • Do you perform the same motion over and over again or stay in one position for long periods of time? Do you have pain or experienced some form of traumatic event? Do you have arthritis?

      • All of the above can contribute to movement compensations due to altered sensory input leading to decreased strength and range of motion as a protective mechanism.

  • Biomechanics

    • Do your joints act like joints?

      • Are your joints properly aligned?

        • Do the joint surfaces have maximal contact with one another?

      • Do you have symmetry from side to side?

      • Can you move as far on your own vs someone else moving that body part for you?

      • Do you feel stable, mobile, strong and powerful?

    • Your biomechanical ability to move efficiently and effectively is highly impacted by the other three components of health.

  • Psychosocial

    • There an old adage that goes “perception is 9/10 reality”

    • This is readily seen and holds very true in sport culture

      • Superstitions

      • Pregame Rituals

      • Not changing or washing various items if on a heater

    • Understanding this shows how and what we think about a current or past injury can influence our ability to overcome it

*Management of these four components can and often includes referral to outside sources ie. MD, Naturopath, Psychologist, Dietician, etc
